This article applies only to accounts using the LeadsRx Attribution product for an automotive client. 

Using our Universal Tracking pixel along with vehicle sales data, LeadsRx can track sales for automotive clients. This article will give you an overview of the steps involved in auto dealership onboarding.

There are only 3 components to onboarding a dealership account in LeadsRx and successfully tracking:

  1. Install the Universal Tracking Pixel
  2. Upload the vehicle sales data
  3. VIN Tracking

INSTALLING THE UNIVERSAL TRACKING PIXEL

  1. Login to your LeadsRx dashboard and create a new account. To create an account, you will only need the name of the dealership and the URL for their website.
  2. Once the account is created you will be able to access the pixel by clicking “view pixel” here. 
  3. The tracking pixel needs to be installed near the end of the BODY section on every page of the site. 
  4. If you are using Google Tag Manager to install the pixel you can reference our GTM document for installation instructions.

UPLOADING VEHICLE SALES DATA

1. Formatting The File

Files must be in Comma Separated Value (CSV) format with one row of data for each sale.

A few notes on the template:

  •  Include a Sales Date column to indicate when the sale occurred. The format should be YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS using a 24-hour format for the time.
  • Include a VIN column to indicate the Vehicle Identification Number for the sale.
  • Optionally include a Sales Price column to include the value of the sale.
  • Optionally include any other columns of data you want to save to identify the individual that purchased the vehicle. You can use a unique user ID if you have one. Or, include theFirst Name, Last Name, Email Address, Phone Numberor Mailing Address to identify the person.

2. Uploading The File

In the LeadsRx dealership dashboard hover over the company dropdown in the top right corner. You can either click directly on SETTINGS or VIEW ALL from the secondary dropdown menu, they will direct you to the same location.


Scroll to the bottom of the settings menu and click MANAGE in the upload vehicle sales box. From the next screen select UPLOAD VIN SALES to browse for and upload the file.

Once the file is uploaded LeadsRx will automatically associate VDP visits with vehicle sales and you will be able to view the attribution data.

SETTING UP VIN TRACKING

Upon account set up, our team will identify the best method for VIN tracking given the requirements for your account. Below are the current VIN tracking methods we can set up for your LeadsRX account. 

VIN tracking method

If the leading sub-directory of the page URL on the client’s domain is /inventory/ then this method scrapes the end of the URL for the VIN.

If the leading sub-directory of the page URL on the client’s domain is /inventory/and there are at least 3 additional sub-directories, this method assumes the VIN to be the third to last sub-directory in the URL.

If the page Title contains exactly three pieces of information separated by  - , then this method assumes the second piece of information to be the VIN.

If the page Title contains exactly one instance of the string VIN:  followed by the VIN at the end of the Title, then this method collects the VIN at the end of the Title.

If the page Title separates information by - , this method assumes the second to last piece of information to be the VIN.

If the length of information in the page Title is equal to or longer than a VIN, this method assumes the last 17 characters of the page Title to be the VIN.

If the page Title contains exactly three pieces of information separated by  | , then this method assumes the second piece of information to be the VIN.

The VIN is passed to us directly.
