There are times when you will want to exclude referring websites from appearing as touchpoints in attribution models. For example, you may want to exclude referrals from payment processing sites like PayPal and Amazon Payments. Another common example is to exclude referrals from your own sub-domains like a blog or help system.
Here are the steps to take to add a referral exclusion:
- Using the drop-down menu under the gear icon at the top right of any page, select ACCOUNT.
- On the next page, select the OPTIONS tab.
- Now you can add or modify your referral exclusions. Add exclusions by clicking ADD EXCLUSION. Use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard to match anything. For example, to include all subdomains for your company as a referral exclusion, you would use *mycompany.com.
- Remove ones by clicking the small X near the name of the exclusion.
- Click SAVE at the bottom of the base.
Once you have created a referral exclusion, delete any existing touchpoints for that domain. Once deleted, they will not return as touchpoints.
Please note that if a touchpoint is not deleted, it may continue to record interactions and conversions even with the exclusion in place.
